Venture Law Resources,
PLLC (“VLR”) is one of Minnesota’s most entrepreneurial, aggressive and
results-oriented corporate, securities law and corporate finance law firms.
We serve rapidly growing public and private companies in Minnesota, the
Upper Midwest and specific regions of the West and Southwestern United
States. Our lawyers have served public and private companies, high profile
business owners and leaders, government agencies, financial institutions,
entrepreneurs and inventors, venture capitalists, broker-dealers and high
net worth individuals. At VLR, we offer more than mere legal advice; we
offer a broad perspective on the markets in which our clients compete and
provide a sophisticated network of national contacts within the financial,
regulatory and business communities in which they operate.
To understand who we
are, and why we are unique among law firms, you need to understand who we
are not. VLR is a sophisticated business law boutique serving rapidly
growing companies, their Boards and management teams in the areas of
corporate law, securities law and regulation, corporate finance, mergers and
acquisitions and transactional law. We practice across specific industries:
software; life sciences; medical device; and consumer; and business
services. We do not practice in the areas of litigation, health care,
family law or immigration. Nor do we lobby or do collections. These are not
central to serving our clients. VLR has alliances with best of breed firms
that have expertise in the areas of business litigation, lobbying and
intellectual property for our clients who need counsel in those arenas. We
will not grow for growth sake, spend unwisely on an ornate lobby or art
collection or have multiple offices across the United States or Europe.
These may make some large law firm partners and associates feel good, but we feel don’t add
value to you or your business. We will only hire experienced corporate
attorneys to join our firm, not young associates fresh from law school who
clients, ultimately, pay to train. Many large law firms in Minnesota
(Dougherty Rumble, Popham Haik, Messerli and Oppenheimer among others) and across the U.S. (Brobeck)
have dissolved, closed or shrunk in size in the past three to five years due to rapid or
unwise growth, loss of major clients or from being highly leveraged. Many of
these firms had hundreds of lawyers and offices in multiple cities at one
point in time. Brobeck in San Francisco (founded in 1926) had 11 offices
and over 700 attorneys at the time of its demise in 2002.
VLR doesn’t intend to be everything to everyone. We believe we do a few
things, and do them extremely well. If you need teams of litigators,
young associates, attorneys in multiple time zones or believe that your law
firm needs a pricey art collection and lobby, we’re sorry, we’re not for
you. If, however, you need an aggressive and savvy corporate law firm with
premier service and a sophisticated network of regional and national
contacts, call or email VLR - we think you’ll be glad you did.
